Without a doubt a highlight of our stone year is
on the smallest of the Aran Islands; Inis Oírr
This year offers a letter cutting workshop with Tom Little
We use Kilkenny Limestone polished with various grades of paper
which brings up a black glassy surface full of fossils
We work in relief – a Celtic font from The Book of Kells
A sculpting workshop in sandstone is also on offer. Friendly faces from afar journey here – all for the love of stone.
Meanwhile along the busy shore road
work begins on a new wall
This is a single skin wedge type, traditional to these islands
And particularly handsome it is
complete with stile
As ever the same problem – all too soon the ferry awaits
but we are inspired once more
Thanks for taking that photo Louise. It was a great weekend and Im now addicted to letters. Roll on Tir Connaill stone fest.
